Nearly every night of summer, a rooftop on the Lower East Side simmers with an irreplicable energy. If you stop and listen, you’ll hear the sound of cocktails being shaken in sweating tumblers, the chatter of friends, the honking of cabs down on Allen Street below. And, of course, the music.
At Make Believe, a social club and cocktail lounge on the roof of SIXTY LES, it’s all about what’s getting pumped out the speakers and onto the dance floor. Thatcher Shultz and Jack Mulqueen, the team behind it all, has put music curation at the top of their list since they opened just over a year ago. Since then, it’s been one killer DJ after the next. Not surprising, given Shultz and Mulqueen’s own abilities for creating the perfect soundtrack.
As SIXTY celebrates Make Believe’s year-plus anniversary this week, the two were kind enough to whip up a soundtrack that’ll have you heading towards the roof in no time. Have a listen.
